The Skilled Migrant Category sets an overall threshold. Other categories set their own, so check INZ's page for the visa you're applying under.
If you use PTE Academic as the principal applicant, you need 58 overall. The test route for partners and dependent children aged 16 or older uses 36 overall. Other evidence options exist. Tests must be in person and results no more than two years old.
New Zealand's use of PTE Academic rides the same build as Australia and the UK: the current task list, the current scoring gates, and trait-level feedback aimed at the exam Pearson refreshed in August 2025, not an older format.
