This Privacy Policy explains how Kooroo PTE(“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use Kooroo PTE(“the App”: the mobile application, and the signed-in app you practise in at kooroopte.com) or visit the public pages of the Kooroo PTE website(kooroopte.com, “the Site”). Practising in your browser collects the same things as practising on your phone, including your recordings, so section 2b covers both. By using the App or the Site you agree to this policy.
1. Who we are
Kooroo PTE is a practice platform for the Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic and PTE Core). For any privacy question, contact us at kooroopte@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
2a. On the public pages of the website
| Data | Why we collect it | How |
|---|---|---|
| Analytics data (page views, device type, referral source) | To understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it. | Collected via Google Analytics 4 using Consent Mode v2. Analytics cookies and measurement are denied by default and activated only if you accept analytics via our consent banner. |
If you decline analytics, no Google Analytics data is collected. You can change your consent at any time by clearing site data or contacting us. This covers the pages anyone can read without an account. Once you sign in and start practising in your browser, section 2b applies.
2b. In the app, on your phone or in your browser
| Data | Why we collect it | How |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | To create and secure your account and sign you in. | You enter it when registering, or it is provided by Google when you use Google Sign-In. |
| Name (if available) | To personalise your account. | Provided by Google Sign-In, or by you. |
| Your learning profile (exam track, destination, target score, exam date, first-language / accent group, daily study time, days per week, timezone, country; phone number if you add one) | To build and personalise your study plan and keep it in sync across your devices. | You enter it during onboarding. It is saved to our servers (over encrypted HTTPS/TLS) so your plan follows you when you sign in on another device. |
| Voice recordings (speaking-practice answers) | So you can record and play back your spoken answers, and to generate automated (AI) scoring and feedback. | Recorded with your microphone, on your phone or in your browser, and uploaded to our servers over an encrypted connection, where they are scored and kept with your attempt so you can replay them. We do not use them for advertising or share them with advertisers. You can practise every non-speaking task type without recording anything. |
| Practice activity (answers, results, scores, mock sittings, streaks, notification preferences) | To score your work, track your progress, and build your study plan. | Created and stored on our servers as you practise, on your phone or in your browser, so your progress follows your account. |
| Purchase records | To unlock what you bought and handle refunds. | When you buy a VIP pass, Stripe (on the web), Google Play (on Android) or the App Store (on iPhone) processes the payment, and we store the purchase record and what it unlocked. On the web, your account email is shared with Stripe so it can send you a receipt. We never see your card number. |
| Device identifiers (push registration token, Firebase app instance id) | To deliver the study reminders you turn on and to count installs. | Generated on your device and sent to our servers and to Firebase. Not an advertising identifier. |
| Usage and diagnostics (app opens, sessions, which features are used, crash logs) | To understand which parts of the App help and fix it when it breaks. | Collected by Firebase Analytics (usage events such as which task types you practise, never your answers or recordings) and Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports), with Google acting as our processor. You can turn usage analytics off in the App under Settings. |
| Authentication tokens | To keep you signed in securely. | Stored in your device's encrypted secure storage. Never shared. |
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, advertising identifier, card or bank details, or health data. The App contains no advertising.
3. How we use your information
- To create, authenticate, and manage your app account.
- To provide and personalise the App's practice and study-plan features.
- To generate scoring and feedback on your answers, including automated (AI) scoring of your spoken practice answers.
- To deliver the study reminders you turn on.
- To unlock purchases and handle refunds.
- To find and fix crashes and defects.
- To respond to your support requests.
- To understand how the Site and App are used (analytics, with consent on the Site).
- To keep the Site and App secure and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
4. Third-party services
We use a limited set of trusted providers to run the Site and App:
- Google Sign-In and Firebase (Google LLC): optional Google sign-in, push notifications, basic usage analytics, and crash reporting in the App. Analytics and crash reporting run on the mobile app only. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Play Billing (Google LLC): processes payments for VIP passes bought on Android. Google handles the transaction; we receive a purchase token, never your payment details.
- Stripe: processes payments for VIP passes bought on the web. Stripe handles the transaction and your account email, so it can send you a receipt; we never see your card number. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Apple (Apple Inc.): Sign in with Apple, where you choose it, and App Store billing for a VIP pass bought on iPhone, where Apple handles the transaction and we receive a transaction id, never your payment details. If you hide your email address when signing in, we only ever see Apple's relay address. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC): used on the Site only, with Consent Mode v2. Denied by default; activated only with your consent. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Our backend hosting: your account data is stored on our secured servers and transmitted only over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections.
5. How we store and protect your data
All data sent between your device (or browser) and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Authentication tokens are held in your device's encrypted secure storage. We retain your account data for as long as your account exists, and for 30 days after you ask us to delete it. Section 6 says exactly what goes and what stays.
6. Your rights & deleting your data
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time.
Deleting your account yourself. In the app, open the You tab, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account. On the web, open Profile and choose Delete my account. Either screen states what is removed and what is kept before you confirm. If you cannot sign in, email kooroopte@gmail.com from your registered email address, or use kooroopte.com/delete-account.
What happens, and when. Your account closes straight away and you are signed out. Your data is then permanently deleted 30 days later. During those 30 days, signing back in restores your account exactly as it was; after that, it cannot be recovered. What is deleted: your recordings and the audio files behind them, your practice and mock attempts with their scores and feedback, your study plan and progress, your notification preferences and push tokens, and your profile including your name and email address. What we keep: purchase records, required for tax and refund handling, and a sign-in log used to investigate fraud; neither carries your name or contact details once your account is purged.
7. Children
Kooroo PTE is intended for users aged 18 and over and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
8. International users
Kooroo PTE serves learners in Australia, the UK, Canada, India and other regions. Your data may be processed in countries other than your own; we apply the protections described in this policy wherever your data is processed.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the App and Site evolve. Material changes will be reflected by an updated effective date at the top of this page, and where appropriate, notified in-app or by email.
